Early on Sunday morning, my lovely husband Mike passed away peacefully, and without pain, at St Giles Hospice, where he had spent the previous nine days, after over six weeks in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It had been six and a half years since his kidney cancer was first diagnosed, and during those years he had astounded us all by his strength (physically, mentally and spiritually) and endurance. He was determined to live as full a life as possible despite the various operations and procedures, and his daily cocktail of drugs with their unpleasant side-effects. He never complained, kept his sense of humour, and just carried on as normal. He will be sadly missed by our family, his many friends and associates, but no one more than me. My husband, best friend, and inspiration is now at peace.
Michael's funeral will take place at 11am on Monday 6 August, at Sacred Heart RC Church, Lichfield Rd. The family and I would like this to be a celebration of his life rather than the mourning of his death, and I am sure he would approve of our plans for a good send-off (including the Morris dancers!).
Any of my allotment friends would be very welcome to join us on the day.
So sorry to hear of your loss Our thoughts are with you
